The importance of players’ academic development is not only in the added value of an academic degree, but also in the development of competencies that retirees can use to enhance the development of a professional occupation after retirement from football. As a proactive approach, players should, while still active in football, develop those competencies that can optimise their transition into a post–playing career.”
Prof. Paul Wylleman, FIFPRO
